A round-up of last week’s people moves at firms providing services to the alternative assets industry
Legal
- William D. Davis II has joined Dentons as Partner in the Corporate, Tax, and Private Client practice in Houston, Texas. He was previously a Partner at Reed Smith and, before that, was at Norton Rose Fulbright.
- DLA Piper has hired Steve Dixon as Partner in the Tax Practice, based in Washington D.C. He joins from Steptoe, where he was a Partner. In Canada, the firm has appointed Samuel Bogetti as an Associate in the Litigation, Arbitration, and Investigations group. Bogetti previously spent two years at Cozen O’Connor as an Associate focusing on Commercial Litigation, Competition, White Collar Defense & Investigations.
- Atlanta-headquartered King & Spalding has rehired Katie Weiss and Martin Eid as Partners in its Manhattan Office, where they will work in the Finance and Restructuring practice. The two previously worked at King & Spalding and left together in April last year to join Milbank. King & Spalding has more than 100 lawyers working across 11 offices worldwide in its Finance and Restructuring practice group.
- Leonora Shalet has joined Morgan Lewis as a Partner in New York, where she will work in its global private investment funds practice. She joins from Schulte Roth & Zabel and will continue her focus on advising investment funds and advisers in connection with fund structuring, formation, and ongoing operational and compliance needs.
Banking
- Cleveland-based investment bank and advisory firm Brown Gibbons Lang & Company has appointed Dan Gardella as Managing Director in the Financial Sponsor Coverage group. He will be based in New York. Gardella was previously at William Blair, where he was a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group, and before that was a VP at Morgan Stanley.
- Don McCree has been promoted to Senior Vice Chair at Rhode Island-based Citizens Financial Group. He previously worked as Head of Commercial Banking, and was active in the start up of its private bank. He first joined the firm in 2015 from JPMorgan Chase.
- New York-headquartered investment bank Lazard has hired Ali Syed as Managing Director and Head of Sovereign and Pension Fund Coverage, based in New York. The firm launched Lazard Capital Solutions in 2023 and is seeking to ramp up its presence in private capital. Syed joins Lazard from Citigroup, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Sovereign Wealth Fund and Pension Fund Advisory.
Advisory & Consultancy
- Greenbrook, the London-based public relations agency with a private markets focus, has recruited Cecilie Oerting as Director and Natasha Bragoli as consultant. The agency has also promoted Peter Hewer to Partner, Teresa Berezowski to Director, and Hanne Mortazavi and Long Tran to Senior Associates.
- REstack Advisors, a Vancouver-based real estate services firm, has expanded into the US with the recruitment of Scott Morey and Robert Lieberman from Point Advisers. Morey founded Point Advisers in 2020 and has over 35 years of experience, having held executive positions at WeWork, Altus Group, One11 Advisors, General Growth Properties, Alvarez & Marsal, Equity Office Properties, and Ernst & Young. The combined firm will operate under the REstack brand.
- Boston-based consultancy firm Stax has announced that it is opening an office in London, led by Phil Dunne, who was hired in January. Stax provides consultancy and advisory services to private equity firms and corporates, including strategy and growth, operational improvements, exit planning, data and analytics, and ESG & Impact Advisory.
- Walker & Dunlop, a Maryland-based commercial real estate finance and advisory firm, has appointed Gary Pinkus to its Board of Directors and Audit and Risk Committee. He previously spent over 36 years at McKinsey, serving as Chairman of North America since 2019. His previous roles include Managing Partner of North America, Chairman of McKinsey’s Western Region, and Managing Director, Global Private Equity.
Platform
- London-based IT managed services provider Abacus Group has acquired Tribeca Technology – strengthening the firm’s presence in the UK. The leadership team, led by Managing Director Mark Instance, remains in place.
- Nick Frost has been appointed as Global CFO of London-based Delta Capita, the financial services division of Prytek. He served a similar role at the London Stock Exchange, where he was Group Director – Capital Markets Finance.
- New York-based ‘Brokerage as a Service’ platform DriveWealth has promoted Jason Pizzorusso to President, Marcus Anthony to Chief Financial Officer, and Emily Ellis to Chief People Officer. Pizzorusso joined DriveWealth in 2023 as CFO. Anthony, who joined the firm in 2021, will shift from being Chief Operating Officer to CFO. Ellis joined DriveWealth in 2022 after working at Lyft.
- Financial services data management firm Finbourne Technology has hired Marius Esterhuysen and Sara Gilbert as Sales Directors in London. Esterhuysen joins from Deep Pool Financial Solutions, where he was Global Head of Sales, and previously served as SVP Business Development at Compliance Solutions Strategies. Gilbert was previously a Private Markets Director at SS&C Technologies, and prior to that, was SVP, Alternatives, at Northern Trust.
